Acer pseudoplatanus f. purpureum, commonly known as Purple-leaf Sycamore Maple, is a deciduous tree valued for its purple foliage. It is a cultivar of Acer pseudoplatanus. It typically grows to heights of 20-30 meters with a broad, rounded crown. The leaves are palmate with five lobes, purple in spring and summer, turning yellow to brown in the fall. Inconspicuous flowers appear in spring, followed by winged seeds that are dispersed by the wind. Purple-leaf Sycamore Maple is often planted as a specimen tree or in mixed borders for its colorful foliage. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade.
